Gaga Barbie

EW came up with the most brilliant idea of doing a year in pictures of Lady Gaga's finest moments and outfits. We re-created paparazzi pictures from her concert tour with the piano on fire, middle finger flipping at a mets game, her interview on Larry King Live, her sister's high school graduation, receiving an MTV award from Cher and scenes from her telephone video in a prison cell and in the prison exercise yard. Michele Romero pulled this shoot together, which involved some very unusual skills, Barbie styling, Barbie hair styling, miniature sets, Barbie make up and Sharpie tattooing.

Awesome Hoff

I shot the ads for The Hasselhoffs, a new reality show about The Hoff and his two daughters on A&E.

Tallahassee

When Q asked if I wanted to shoot The Dums I could pick any city on their US tour calendar. I picked Tallahassee, it has some amazing swamp locations surrounding it. I arranged for a couple of boats and picked up the lantern at an antiques shop on the way to the shoot. I stood knee deep in the swamp when I shot these angles, camera tethered into a laptop, we kind of checked for alligators before I went in.

The National

Fuck You

"Fuck you" star Cee Lo, formerly Gnarls Barkley. I went to his rehearsal space near Atlanta, which really had nothing to offer picturewise, so I shot on simple colorful backgrounds and let the bling do the work.

Romance

I shot My Chemical Romance for Q magazine in London. Q suggested doing a Blade Runner theme, which of course is hugely set extensive and expensive. I google-mapped-street-viewed the surrounding of the studio we had booked to see how I can utilize existing structures. I used one of the entrances to the building and all I needed were a few neon signs, some pipes and wires, a smoke machine, add some water, and we were in Blade Runner city.

Betty

I'm posting this slightly delayed: Betty White for Parade's 2010 Halloween cover.

Raising Hope On Fox

When the Fox creatives approached me with the initial pdf of shot ideas, there were over 10 great concepts on the table, all of them too good to be edited or eliminated. We decided to be ambitions and aim for doing them all in the one shoot day we had (plus a build and a pre-light day of course). And we did do them all!

Big Bang Theory

These pictures are from a marathon gallery shoot I did in the spring. We had six simultaneous sets and rotated between them.

A lesser Drew Carey

Drew Carey lost 100 lb and it is hard to recognize him. In my pictures I was using metaphors for his dramatic weight loss, my favorite being the two walls he squeezed inbetween. We made a small "behind the scenes" video with a Flip camera:

pet circus

I came across this show in Vegas and asked if they were interested in doing a shoot. Gregori, the creator of the show who trains the animals and performs, comes from a family of circus performers in Russia. He adopts cats and dogs from shelters. He has two adjacent houses, one for his family and one for his animals. Every day they get loaded up on a van and make the trip to the strip for the show.

Harry Pot...., I mean Dan

It was hard to call him Dan and not Harry when shooting Dan for a new musical production of "How to succeed in business without really trying". But I did not slip. Dan plays Finch in the 1960 musical that opens on Broadway in February.

The Glades

I shot the ads for a new show on A&E called The Glades, a detective show that plays in Florida. I shot on the beach in Miami and on a huge swamp set we built in studio. For the beach I requested for it to be cleaned. It was raked with a tractor overnight which did not look right. I needed everybody on set to help me mess it up again. The video was done with a silent film app on an i phone and shows everybody at work ridding the sand from raking streaks.

Flaming Lips' Wayne Coyne

I shot the Flaming Lips twice before when "Yoshimi battles the pink robots" came out. They became one of my favorite bands. I went back to Oklahoma to shoot the very very cool Wayne Coyne for a Q article. The blood is a standard prop in his shows. I brought flaming contact lenses to the shoot and he agreed to wear them. The big plastic bubble is part of most live shows, Wayne gets in it and crowd-surfs. As a fan I own one, too.

winners

As part of a campaign for the Game Show Network I shot People doing "victory dances". Here are some of my image choices.

plane spotters

These guys are plane spotters that spend many hours under Heathrow's runway approaches every week and watch/photograph planes landing and taking off. They take notes. They get exited when a new A380 from Singapore or Sydney lands, or when a Olympic flight from Athens is 7 hours delayed, instead of the usual 3 hours. I know a thing or two about 737s, 747s, 757s, 767s, and 777s, as well as A318s, A319s, A320s, A321s, A330s and A340s, so I cannot totally distance myself from these guys and I had a good time chatting with them.

Mike Myers

There is always this one big question when going into an editorial shoot: Is the person you're shooting going to go for what you have planned to do? When I presented my ideas to Mike Myers he said: "I don't like these ideas, ...............I love them!" Phew.

Jersey Couture

I have not watched the show yet, but this family is funny, I very much enjoyed shooting them.

Miami Medical for CBS

I shot the ads and gallery for a new show on CBS called Miami Medical, shooting around the set of the show on the Warner lots in Burbank.

MTV's The Hills

I shot MTV's The Hills gallery and ad shoot over two days. On the first day we shot on location at The Thompson hotel in Beverly Hills, the day was eventful, to say the least. The second day was in studio and was to match the on-air promo shoot. There are some 152 pictures uploaded on MTV.com, here's the main group shot and the poster.
